Holiday Inn Rotherham, Exclusive Hire

Staying here was for convenience of location meeting family from Mexborough. Rotherham and Doncaster , close to Clifton park for my Grandson to run around and also for shopping at Meadowhall . Rooms were clean, ours was very large with a fridge and treats on arrival . We had 2 Queen beds, a sofa bed and a travel cot and still a lot of room to move around. Breakfast is good, lots of choice. Staff are really friendly. There is a treasure hunt, colouring activity for the children. The pool is nice. Check in was a breeze and I liked the " hydration station" with refreshments. I will choose to stay here again.

The rooms were a good size, but I only scored it a 3 because it needed some maintenance (it was leaking around the window, and the bathroom had been renovated, but not repainted!) On the plus sides are: 1) The leisure centre with two pools, jacuzzi, sauna and steam room. There was a gym area, but I didn't look in there. 2) The amazing staff on reception and in the bar, who were all friendly and helpful. We have already booked our return visit.

First I'd like to compliment the staff. All of the staff I met were friendly, helpful and obviously wanting to make sure guests were having a good time. The hotel itself - well, it's not a 4 star place, or worth the price premium they charge, thats for sure. Room 119 and the corridor outside smells damp and musty. I dont know if there's been a water leak either in the room/bathroom or upstairs, but it doesnt even air out with the windows open. I'd have asked to move if it hadn't been late when I got back to the room after dinner. I thought it would be OK, but the musty smell woke me several times through the night and I've had to wash all my clothes as they brought the smell home. One of the other first floor rooms my colleague was offered is above reception, and the smokers congregate outside the door. Smoke drifts up and the room smells like a smoking room (a concept that has almost gone away by now!). The corridor carpet was held down with packing tape right across the doors. That didnt look like a recent emergency measure. Its in keeping with some of the other decor etc that looks like it really is in need of a refresh/tidy up. The restaurant cant be recommended really, The food is no more than OK. I've had better in many other pubs and restaurants. The front of house staff are great, but perhaps a little too practised at dealing with kitchen cock-ups? I'd have expected that running out of pizza bases would have been flagged either early in the day, or when an order was presented with pizza included, not when the rest of the food for the table had arrived. The waiting staff were obviously embarassed by that ! 4 stars - nope, certainly not warranted for ay area other than friendly and caring staff at reception and front of house in the restaurant.
