Pleasant, friendly and efficient staff. Top class food. Good location. Lovely garden. Loved the story of the name of the hotel! We stayed in a self contained stone cabin opposite reception.

The exterior presents a lovely appearance. The room was clean, although somewhat outdated, and the blinds were unfortunately broken. It was also a bit unusual that hand towels were not provided. However, the bathroom was quite nice. No insulation, very noisy hearing other guests. The location is excellent, offering convenient access to Longleat. Regarding service, upon arrival after 8 p.m., it was not possible to have dinner, even though another guest was served. It seemed rather peculiar that the hotel did not accommodate later dining. Furthermore, one staff member appeared to be handling multiple responsibilities, including receptionist, host, and waitress duties. Considering the price, perhaps staying at a Travelodge or Premier Inn would have been a more suitable choice.
