About Venue
The Blackwell Grange Hotel makes a spectacular first impression as you approach the building down the sweeping driveway. Located in Darlington, County Durham, the gorgeous building with a Georgian façade, stands proudly amidst nine acres of charming countryside.
The Blackwell Grange was original built as a private residence by the Allan family. The building’s construction began in 1663 and was completed in 1717. Now a wonderful hotel, The Blackwell Grange has experienced a long and fascinating life so far.
The outstanding grounds and striking interiors – including a grand Georgian staircase – provide the stunning backdrops for your treasured wedding photographs.
There are two fantastic function suites for your wedding celebrations. The Jacobean Suite has stunning high ceilings with original oak beams. The suite can accommodate up to 140 day guests and 200 for the evening. Alternatively, the George Allan Suite has the capacity for 80 day guests and 130 evening guests. The room has distinct traditional décor, overlooks the beautiful gardens, and has direct access to the Wedding Gazebo on the grounds.
The Gazebo is situated in the heart of the garden and is licensed to hold civil ceremonies. The glorious outdoor setting provides the perfect atmosphere in which to say “I do”.
We hold Wedding Open Evenings every month, so please feel free to pop along! When you visit, you can see the suites dressed and laid out for a wedding celebration. Open Evenings are on the last Thursday of the month and run from 6pm to 7:30pm.

Brilliant overnight stay whilst attending a wedding. Room was very spacious and comfortable and bed was perfect. Breakfast was very good although a little slow when replenishing breakfast items leading to some guests complaining loudly.

I can't praise this hotel enough. Set in beautiful grounds. Stunning building with helpful staff. Had a superior room which was large with a very comfortable bed. The breakfast was excellent as was the bar snacks. Plus Bananarama were staying so all in all a fabulous visit. Loved it.

Went as a getaway from the life for our anniversary. Place was clean and staff where nice. Fully stocked gym and little swimming pool and two hot tubs and sauna. Pool is compact and can be slippery. But brilliant stay overall. Will be back 💪🏼 No Ghost sightings either 🤣

I gave this a 2 star review but only for the staff, the hotel itself is a 1 at best. This is definitely not a 4 Star hotel. It maybe gets this rating for ‘facilities’ but nothing else. The entrance is swanky and it stops there. I thought the price was reasonable when booking but that was for a reason. Cannot fault the staff, highly understaffed but the staff that are there are excellent. Helpful and polite whilst being rushed off their feet. Especially reception and bar, thank you. Rooms are very very tired. Lots of rot around the windows and you cannot swing a cat, they are so small. The photos are nothing like the hotel or rooms. Also, no air conditioning, as it’s an old building 😂 yeah, pull the other one. Seriously, do not stay if it’s hot, you get a desk fan and a window that opens about 2 inches. But you’ll be sweaty and at least smell like the rest of the hotel.
