Easy check in and a warm welcome at the Darlington Mercure Hotel. My room was clean, well maintained and perfect for my stay. Breakfast was good with plenty to choose from (nice and fresh) and staff at breakfast were lovely, and engaging with customers. Dinner was excellent (Sorry we all overwhelmed you as a group at the last minute) but you looked after us very well and kept us informed regarding timings from the kitchen - absolutely spot on and much appreciated! Dinner was delicious and cooked perfectly! Maid left my room spotless and well serviced on a daily basis! Check out was easy with keycard deposit box. A really pleasant stay and amazing staff throughout! A big 'well done' to the amazing staff at this hotel!

Great location in the city centre. Room fairy spacious with high ceiling (#429) - stayed 29/8/25 - 31/8/25 Decor throughout quite good and well maintained for standard of hotel. Bed very springy however and not that comfortable at all. Needs changing. Good selection of breakfast items and presented nicely. Also great coffee machine. Manual hot water dispenser is temperamental and it takes an age to dispense water for tea. Reception team friendly and very welcoming. However their knowledge of local electrical charging points is limited. Suggested Morrison car park 1.5 miles away when we found far closer points in local car park. Also when I asked about local things to do I was told "Drinking". Maybe it's a northern thing.... I don't know. Overall a good hotel and would consider it again. Thank you for your hospitality.

The hotel is in a good location however the restaurant isn't open for dinner but you can order food on Uber eats to the hotel. The rooms are fine but have a stuffy smell to them. Like they need a good air out. There is no AC which is probably why it is so stuffy feeling. Overall the hotel is fine but I wouldn't hurry back.

Mercure might be a name synonymous with high-quality hotels, but this place is the family’s ugly, unloved stepchild. Yes, the staff are warm and friendly, but that’s where the comfort ends. The room is no bigger than a shoebox, colder than a butcher’s freezer, and the décor consists of threadbare carpets, chipped walls, and the unmistakable perfume of mould and sewage wafting in from the bathroom. I passed on Travelodge thinking I was upgrading — turns out I paid extra to be downgraded. The real tragedy? I’ve got to survive another night in this dilapidated, third-rate misery box. Book it for convenience if you must, but if you’re after quality, run like hell!
