Cannot recommend The Welcombe strongly enough - great staff, service, and rooms. Set in an unbelievably beautiful landscape. While the price was extremely reasonable, this was easily the most upscale stay of our trip! There is a wonderful pool and full spa that we unfortunately didn't have time to try, also a golf course. We'd definitely stay again!

The Welcombe Hotel, a former country mansion built in 1886 in the Neo-Jacobean style, exudes timeless elegance and charm. From the moment you approach along the private road, surrounded by unspoiled countryside, the grandeur of the estate is striking. Stepping inside, one is transported back in time, enveloped in a truly relaxing atmosphere. The architecture of the entrance, reception rooms, bar, and restaurant is awe-inspiring. While some may find the furnishings in the rooms slightly worn, it only adds to the property’s authenticity and character, enhancing the overall experience. The adjacent spa boasts a range of amenities, including a large heated swimming pool, steam room, sauna, jacuzzi, and foot spa, ensuring a luxurious and rejuvenating stay. The standard of food and drinks is impressive, and the staff provide excellent service, adding to the overall enjoyment of the stay. The Welcombe Hotel is a hidden gem, offering peaceful isolation, breathtaking views, and the rare opportunity to experience the charm of an old English country mansion. It’s an experience not to be missed and comes highly recommended.

We had a lovely stay, staff are attentive, the room was lovely overlooking the grounds, and spa was relaxing. A couple of issues: 1. The spa had more people than beds. Some people couldn’t even secure a chair to sit on. We weren’t able to get a bed, which did taint the experience as I definitely would have stayed longer than what we did if there had been one for us. They definitely need to invest in more beds!!! 2. Very minor but I ordered a moving mountains burger and when it arrived, it didn’t have any cheese like described. I had to ask about this to be told that they had ran out. If I had known that, I would have picked something else originally. If the spa was more accommodating I would definitely return

Dog friendly- if you have deep pockets!! For a hotel which classes itself as dog friendly I was absolutely gobsmacked to find out that you charge £40 per dog per room! I have two small dogs and that’s £80 a night! Such a shame that hotels like this are able to rip people off like this. If you have a dog, re think!!
