Nestled in an idyllic part of the Scottish Borders, Thirlestane Castle is a magnificent 16th century castle set in a meadow landscape. Family home to the Duke of Lauderdale, it is one of the oldest and finest castles in Scotland and still remains home to the Maitland family today.
Thirlestane Castle is available for weddings, corporate events, meetings, private dining and celebrations. Just 35 minutes south of Edinburgh it's easily accessible just off the A68.
This elegant drawing room with dramatic fireplaces is on the first floor of the main central part of the castle. The breath taking plaster ceilings date from the 17th century.

February 2024We stayed at one of the apartments in the castle and loved every minute of it. Staff is very attentive and the grounds are beautiful and full of wildlife. Behind the castle runs a small river and there is a walk alongside it which makes for a great morning stroll.
