About Exchange Suite

Royal Exchange Theatre Co Ltd, St. Anns Square, Manchester, M2 7DH

Manchester's Royal Exchange Theatre Company transforms the way people see theatre, each other and the world around them. Its historic building, was taken over by artists in 1976. Today it is an award-winning cultural charity that produces new theatre in-the-round, in communities, on the road and online.

The Theatre is a spectacular seven-sided, glass-walled capsule, suspended in the centre of the historic Cotton Exchange. This unique design means all seats are less than nine metres from the circular stage. The Studio is a smaller 90-seat flexible venue hosting touring and new productions.

In addition to plays and a programme of special events, the Theatre also houses the Theatre Shop and Shop Gallery, recognised as a major focal point of contemporary craft work in the North West.

Overlooking the Theatre, and St Ann’s Square is the Front Room. With a separate entrance, privacy and an optional bar area the space is ideal for meetings, presentations or private dining, and can accommodate up to 80 people.

In addition, the former board room of the Exchange is now a unique setting for a business meeting, away day, private dining, or drinks reception. This private suite is unique setting unrivalled for interior design, location and service. The Café and indoor beer garden in the Grade II Listed Great Hall offers a warm welcome in a striking location, and the newly refurbished The Rivals restaurant is a welcome alternative to the bustle of the city.

Once the boardroom of the former Cotton Exchange, the Exchange Suite is perfect for private working lunches, important business meetings, or elegant entertaining.
With its original oak panelling and old-world atmosphere, the Exchange Suite boats a private double-height reception with bar and sweeping staircase leading up to the intimate boardroom. Offering absolute privacy, the Exchange Suite is perfect for a working lunch, an important business meeting or simple elegant entertaining. Available throughout the day, the capacity is 24 (standing lunch buffet), 18 private dining, 50 drinks reception.

Excellent! One of the best and most forward thinking theatres around. Opportunities for people to get involved, fantastic young directors, and incredible new writing. Great place to catch a show, or simply meet up with friends for a coffee in stunning surroundings.

The absolute most perfect theatre in every single way. In terms of performance the RX has never had a production that wasn't steeped in originality and innovation, and it's seasons will take in old and new, in drama, musical, and comedy. In terms of seating the true theatre in the round offers a range of comfortable seats, stools, and banquettes all with great visibility - stage side can be a visceral and involving experience. Architecturally it is stunning, combining the modernist metal cauldron of the performance space with the historical classicism of the old exchange building itself. There is plenty of space for the entire audience to mingle away from their seats during the interval. There are two bars if you count it's interior pub The Rivals, and both bars have a great selection of real and craft beers; they won't thank me for saying this but there is little point in preordering interval drinks. Add on a free cloak room, and it is the greatest theatre in existence.

Fantastic theatre with stimulating productions in main theatre and studio. The building is amazing and an oasis of peace on a busy day in the centre of Manchester. The Rivals bar and restaurant is excellent for pre-theatre meals or just a drink after the show. Also a very good cafe and crafts shop. I love the place!

I absolutely love this theatre! It's small and great for intimate shows and the 360° stage gives everyone a great view of the set from every angle. Due to the unique stage, I guess it's suited to certain productions. The theater is also located within the Royal Exchange building which is architecturally beautiful! There's a lift for wheelchair users and ramps to get into the theatre, ground level toilets, restaurant and bar.

Lovely theatre. The food and drinks have a large array, and are reasonably priced. It's centrally located with bars and cages surrounding it. The shop is lovely with lots of trinkets to buy. The theatre itself is wonderfully intimate, there isn't really any bad seating, if you sit front row be prepared to be sat basically on the floor though. But go see anything here, it will be worth it. The staff are very friendly and helpful.
