A hidden gem and the perfect peaceful getaway I discovered The Inn on the Lake completely by chance. I was driving past, spotted the sign at the side of the road and decided to look it up there and then. On a complete spur of the moment decision, I booked an overnight stay – and I'm so glad I did. At just £102 for a double lake view room including breakfast, I thought the price was extremely reasonable. A friend booked too and brought her small dog along, which is where this hotel really shines. It is genuinely one of the most dog-friendly hotels I've ever visited. Not only do they offer dog-friendly rooms, but also dog afternoon teas and designated areas where dogs are welcome to sit alongside you in the restaurant and by the lake. It's incredibly refreshing to visit somewhere that truly welcomes your pet rather than merely tolerating them. The room décor is admittedly a little dated, but honestly, I found that added to its charm. At this price point, I was more than happy. There were a couple of things that could be improved though. The shower in my room was stuck on scalding hot, which I only discovered in the morning, so I mentioned it to reception when checking out. Also, if (as I suspect) a large proportion of guests are older visitors seeking a relaxing break, upgrading the televisions would make a huge difference. The TVs are tiny, almost laptop screen size and mounted high on the wall. I certainly wasn't going to be watching the football comfortably! Considering how inexpensive televisions are nowadays, it would be a relatively small investment that would significantly enhance the guest experience. Breakfast was lovely, particularly the ambience. We sat in the dog-friendly restaurant area and both staff and guests were incredibly friendly. Staff even took our orders at the table, meaning my friend didn't have to take her dog into the main restaurant area. My friend thoroughly enjoyed her continental breakfast. My vegetarian breakfast was adequate rather than exceptional. I wish I could say it was fabulous, but the vegetarian bacon consisted of one very small, quite hard piece and overall the portions were on the smaller side. That said, everything else was well cooked and tasty. The real star of this hotel, however, is the setting. The grounds are absolutely stunning. I spent a good three to four hours simply sitting by the lakes, watching ducks glide across the water and fish jumping in the sunshine. It was peaceful, calming and exactly what I didn't realise I needed. We also had bar food as we sat outside, a salad and a ploughman's, both delicious and very reasonably priced. Next time, I'll definitely book one of the patio rooms that lead directly onto the lake. Overall, I genuinely loved this hotel. It isn't trying to be a flashy five-star luxury resort, and that's exactly why it works. It's peaceful, welcoming, reasonably priced and full of charm. If you're looking for somewhere to completely switch off for a day or two, this place is absolutely perfect. 💚

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I recently visited Inn on the Lake in Gravesend and had a wonderful experience. The location is absolutely stunning, set around a beautiful lake with picturesque views in every direction. The peaceful surroundings make it the perfect place to relax, unwind, and escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. One of the highlights of my visit was the scenery. The lake, gardens, and surrounding woodland create a truly tranquil atmosphere, making it an excellent spot for photography, a leisurely walk, or simply sitting and enjoying the view. The grounds are very well maintained and provide a lovely setting throughout the year. The staff were welcoming, friendly, and professional, ensuring that guests felt comfortable and well looked after. The facilities were clean and well presented, and the overall atmosphere of the hotel was warm and inviting. Whether you are visiting for a meal, an overnight stay, a wedding, or a special occasion, the venue offers a fantastic setting. I was particularly impressed by how peaceful and relaxing the environment felt. Watching the reflections on the lake and enjoying the natural surroundings made for a memorable visit. It is easy to see why this venue is so popular for weddings and celebrations. I would highly recommend Inn on the Lake to anyone looking for a beautiful lakeside venue in Kent. The combination of stunning views, excellent facilities, friendly service, and a relaxing atmosphere makes it a place well worth visiting. I look forward to returning again in the future.

I needed somewhere to stay overnight, and it was perfect for that. The bed was comfortable, the noise from the A2 didn't bother me, though I didn't open my window, despite being quite warm overnight. What woke me up more was the horrible smell of decades of stale cigarette smoke embedded in the room. The staff when I checked in were lovely; the bar staff were ok, and the breakfast guy was very sweet. The food was fine, the breakfast was tasty. The surfaces are indeed ALL sticky (is it the old varnish?); the bath had burns in it. I didn't use the shower, so I can't comment on that. Yes, the place is dated... but I thought that was charming! It was cheaper than Travelodge etc, with breakfast thrown in. I would stay here again, but I'd bring an air freshener next time!
