You might call us a country hotel; you might call us a village-style retreat set within a 400 acre private estate; you might even call us the gateway to a world of outdoor adventure. Whichever; we call it The Fish – and we think you’re going to like it.

This is a new kind of country hotel. We’re affordable but not budget, stylish but not pretentious, and outdoorsy but just as happy to stay in and put our feet up by the fire. The Fish is your back-to-nature bolt-hole with a little touch of luxury.

We stayed there with our dog for 3 nights and it was excellent. Everything provided for dog and human. Large comfortable room with outdoor space and furniture. Beautiful views. Easy walk into Broadway if you’re fit and used to hills. The dining catered for gluten free extremely well. Even the snacks in our room were gluten free. Thoroughly recommend this hotel.

We spent 4 nights at The Fish for our minimoon, staying in one of the hideaway huts (they’re amazing if you were wondering). Absolutely fantastic experience - lovely accommodation, stunning views and brilliant staff that couldn’t do more for us. Can’t wait to go back!

Is this the best dog friendly hotel in the UK? What a lovely relaxing couple of days we had. The hotel is ranged across a steep hillside but this guarantees some spectacular views. Dogs are allowed everywhere except for the Hook restaurant. Our room didn’t have air conditioning but that will not stop us coming back.

I recently stayed at The Fish (bank holiday weekend), and while the experience had its highlights, it fell short in several areas, particularly for families. Pros: The hotel is situated on beautiful and picturesque grounds, offering a peaceful retreat with lovely surroundings. The staff were friendly, making us feel welcome throughout our stay. The adventure field is a great touch, providing ample space for running around and burning off energy. Our room was also lovely, comfortable, and well-appointed, leading to a good night's sleep. Cons: Unfortunately, despite the idyllic setting, there wasn’t much to do. The hotel doesn't offer many activities or facilities, especially for families. The lack of fresh milk options (outside of breakfast time) was disappointing—only semi-skimmed long-life milk was available, which isn’t ideal for children. The sofa bed was another major letdown; it was incredibly thin and, more worryingly, not safe for toddlers. Our little one fell through a gap, which exposed some sharp metal edges. We ended up putting it away altogether. The kid zone was another area that could use improvement. It’s located on a steep hill, which is a risky setup for toddlers, and strangely enough, there wasn't even a slide. This made playtime more of a challenge than an enjoyable experience. Lastly, the price of items on the premises was quite steep. Paying £3.50 for 200ml of Coke was disappointing, especially considering a standard can is 330ml—so not even getting a full can’s worth felt a bit like a rip-off. Conclusion: Overall, while The Fish has a pleasant ambiance and lovely staff, the lack of activities and family-friendly features makes it hard to justify the price. The picturesque grounds can only go so far when you’re left with limited options for entertainment or comfort.

Food was horrendous at the restaurant. Overcooked, soggy pasta and meat. Service leaves a lot to be desired. Slow in the bar and often waiting at reception. Rooms also not up to the standards, no A/C, loud noises from upstairs. Overall the hotel is significantly overrated. Location is definitely good though.
