Very disappointed with our stay at what should have been a 4 star break. Stayed 2 nights. On entering our room we both noticed the dust all over the wooden floor, this had obviously built up over a long period of a poor cleaning routine. The room was small, boxy and dated, the bathroom had a stale and dank smell to it and again had areas of neglect, see pictures. We really disliked the narrow corridors, it felt like your room was going to be entered when people walked by. We found our room noisy with the foot traffic past our room and also through the what seemed thin walls. The bed has left myself and my girlfriend with back ache, it was a very uncomfortable memory foam type that was way too soft with little support, the 2 pillows were thin and again uncomfortable, the bed had no cups for the casters, as it moved throughout our stay, even just when turning over to try and get comfortable. I would rate our accommodation as a dated 3 star, with poor attention to cleaning with All the dust as previously mentioned. Positives: Nice shower, plenty of hot water Staff very polite The breakfast choice and quality was excellent Very nice bar and outside seated area, prices reasonable, but service was slow at times, especially in view of the fact that a wedding party, including ourselves were staying there and wanting drinks. Easy parking I really don't like leaving any review that can reflect poorly on a business, as stated there were several positive points too, however we were disappointed overall. Also the iron had something melted over the plate and we were unable to use.

Great find, Hotel is well situated in the centre of town with good parking staff very friendly. Lunch in the bar and restaurant were extremely good and reasonably priced. Would definitely recommend.

Stayed here as in chelmsford, the staff were very friendly and happy to help. Ate in the bar as the restaurant had a large function. Bar was nice and was quiet. Good selection on the menu, meal was very nice and good sized portion. Our room was nice and comfortable, only downside was when the function/celebration had finished later in the evening we heard people talking/laughing as they walked past our room, but after that slept well, bed very comfortable. In the morning we enjoyed a breakfast, good choice ranging from cereals, yoghurt, fruit, toast and a cooked breakfast, we left with our belly's feeling satisfied. Not far from the train station for travel.

We had our child's Christening party/gathering at the County Hotel after having our first child's Christening three years ago. The service was brilliant, very welcoming and accommodating, the food is great and the event went ahead seamlessly. The team really couldn't have done more to look after us. Very impressed.
