February 2024I stayed here over the weekend for my birthday and had a lovely time. Service was amazing, when we arrived our room wasn’t ready so we were kindly offered an upgrade on our room with a better view and added shower. All staff greeted us with a smile and willing to answer any questions we had about the area and where to go. The rooms were clean and the interior felt royal with rich red and gold colours used. Only one down fall was the windows were quite stiff to open but nothing worth marking down on. Breakfast had everything you needed and was really good value for money.

January 2024So this is a big hotel, and it currently has some renovation work going on...although I didn't hear any noise, so all good. It's quite cold as you walk through some of the corridors to get to your room, and although my room was fine in terms of heating, some of my colleagues had to resort to using the electric heaters that were left in their rooms (in the wardrobe). Location is good - it's directly opposite Chester station...

December 2023Lovely old fashioned hotel with lots of history. Really nicely furnished and rooms are warm and atmospheric as is the whole hotel. It's old so don't expect pristine paintwork and window frames but they are keeping it well maintained with all the modern requirements. Carpets are all fresh and clean with no worn areas which is often an indication of getting shabby. Staff helpful and friendly if a bit stretched. Nice buffet breakfast and meal we had at the hotel (included) was good. Location is great next to the railway station and a 10 minute walk into the centre of Chester. We really enjoyed our stay and it's nice to stay in a "proper" hotel not a travel lodge for a treat. Recommend and would use again

January 2024When I booked this hotel the photos of the rooms sold it to me. Well, what a disappointment it was to walk into our room and find it old grubby and in need of some attention and dirty. When in the photos everything looked fresh and nicely decorated. The carpet had hair over it it hadn't been hoovered at all. The bathroom side had toothpaste circles over it the bath had black bits in it . The mattress didn't have a protector on it and the stains were disgusting. Nothing had been dusted. There were no glasses in the room for a cold drink or plastic cups in the bathroom. I have not been to a hotel to date where I've been so disappointed. It's a shame because it's a beautiful old hotel. I just felt robbed and put in one of the older grubber rooms.
