We are a neighborhood family restaurant and perfect for any occasion whether that’s quick mid-week bite to eat, after work drink or a celebration meal.

We believe in creating exceptional food cooked to perfection by our expert chefs. Steak is at the heart of everything we do, as is our commitment to using local and seasonal produce wherever possible.

Don’t be surprised to find a wonderful fresh fish dish and superb vegetarian choices. Our stunning small plates, classic charcuterie, superb sides and delectable deserts are something to be reckoned with and whilst we’re not ones to brag, word on the street is that our “Sunday Roast is one of the best in Clifton”.

We take our wine just as seriously as we take our steak, meaning our wine list is exciting, ever-evolving and offers something for all tastes.

Whether you want deep, delicious reds, light, crisp whites or something sparkling for a celebration, we work hard to ensure our wine list matches perfectly with our food and your mood.

Never had a bad steak here. The medium-rare is cooked just right and there's a good selection of sides, such as triple-cooked chips and mac & cheese. The restaurant itself is stylishly decored like a classy Wild West establishment. It's just rather expensive (e.g the 10.5oz rib-eye at £26 should be at least £5 cheaper), so this is somewhere to come for a treat rather than a regular meal.

We went on a lunchtime. The restaurant was chilly with little atmosphere. The service was a little bored and distracted, polite but going through the motions. The food was distinctly patchy and not up to scratch for this price range - some of the sides dishes were really quite awful, while the steaks were okay, but really nothing to write home about (we know our steak). We wanted to really like this place, but all in all we concluded there are far better dining options in this price range. Having spent over £150 for 2, we got up to leave and no one even looked up to say cheerio, which sums the place up. A soul less experience on all fronts.

2 drinks, 2 sides, 2 steaks, nothing else, no garnish, no bread, £75. Fillet steak was small and granted they are usually little but this was tiny. For this price the steaks should be amazing, they just weren't, We asked for medium rare and got Medium with heavy charcoal and salt that dominated the flavour of the meat. They were perfectly OK to eat but we did ponder on sending them back but didn't cause it's a waste and decided best not to come back rather than cause a scene. At this sort of price expectations are high, customers are picky and have had good steaks elsewhere. Aqua restaurant across the road for example is equally good for steaks, staff are always super pleased you're gracing their restaurant and is a fraction of the price. The Ox is exceptionally bad value for money, nothing terrible but needs to be so much better at this level of price. One thing that was particular bizarre was the sounds of radio 2 from the seventies played all too loudly. No photos, too dark really.

I was really excited to visit this place as I had heard some positive things (albeit about the one on Corn Street). Unfortunately it really didn't live up to the hype. I will say that we all agreed the vibe and decor were on point, especially as the tables were placed a reasonable distance from each other so you don't have groups sitting on top of each other (a real dislike of mine, although sometimes its unavoidable). Sadly it went downhill from there. The starters were disappointing, especially the ribs as they had almost no flavour. For mains the three of us ordered three of the same steaks, all medium rare; when they arrived only one hit the brief, with one over and the other well under (they were all of comparable size). The sides were ok, as was the pepper sauce. The saving grace of the visit was that they were doing a 40% off food before 7pm which made it bearable. At full price we would definitely have sent the steaks back to the kitchen and made a complaint (as I don't think it's unreasonable to expect that, in a steak focused restaurant at this price, they should all be cooked to perfection). With so many great steak places in Bristol, a number of which are more reasonably priced, The Ox Clifton really does need to improve if it's to stay in the game.

Awful Sunday roast last weekend. Pretty over priced for what we got. Chefs on their phones at the pass which was disappointing; should have focused on making the food better (especially the 3 potatoes). Plus not very attentive service considering not many tables. Would not recommend. The good bit was the carrot which was a shame because I got half of one! Haha
