About Venue

If buildings could speak, Bisham Abbey would have a fascinating story to tell. The 800 year old Abbey was once a home for the English nobility and aristocracy and is now part of one of Sport England’s National Sports Centres used as a prestigious training venue for over 20 different sports and organisations including the English Institute of Sport, England Hockey, Living Tennis and the England Football and Rugby Associations. The Abbey is also available for private hire for functions, corporate events, conferences and weddings.

The Margaret Dickinson Lounge incorporates a bar and opens out onto the riverside lawn, giving spectacular views across the picturesque grounds.
The Margaret Dickinson Lounge is also available in conjunction with the adjacent Sonning room.

Only stayed in the hotel, didn't use the facilities, but had a great experience! Great location, comfy rooms, great breakfast, good wifi. Only thing that could be improved is providing a aheet as well as a blanket for hot nights.

Great place to relax, tennis courts are great and in good condition. Staff is welcoming and very friendly. The peace next to the river is the one which everyone will enjoy.

We stayed recently for 3 nights in the disabled room (wheelchair user) and found the room and facilities to be simple and pretty basic but somehow after a holiday in various places this felt streamlined and easy to navigate which was a real plus for us. Room on ground floor, nice gently graded ramp from the reception area down to the carpark, very easy to navigate in a wheelchair. For us it is these things that make a difference! Friendly and helpful staff, good proximity to Marlow (we had a vehicle), would stay here again. Perhaps the team could look at increasing the bed height as the beds are rather low. Otherwise wheelchair bathroom/shower was perfectly accessible.

Zero stars! . I had the worst experience ever. Customer service was crap, room was crap and overall ambience was absolutely crap. I have stayed in many hotels and this was by far the worst. Booked a normal double room, but was given an "accessible room". The room was dull and dirty and the beds were so low!. It was nothing like the room we booked. The bed board was chipped , the radiators were dirty. We spoke to someone there and they said they will ask a manager to speak to us and the whole time we were there, no one came to us. We then had no option but to stay there for one night. Then we called asking to speak to the manager - explained the situation and the manager agreed that the beds were low, and the beds were chipped and that we were given this room as all the other rooms were booked. I said but we were not informed about this at all, if we were, we would never have booked it. We feel misled, and this is absolute fraud!. I asked for a refund and she denied it eventhough she knows that was not the room we booked!. I am very dissapointed in this room, and the customer service! .. I do not recommend them AT ALL! ... really upset from this experience.

I wish I could give this place zero stars. My friend and I booked Bisham Abbey last minute for a weekend stay on Saturday 26th July and paid £77 for the night, it was an absolute waste of money. We had specifically requested a twin room, and my friend even called ahead to confirm this. Hugo from reception assured us the booking was amended. After a 2 hour journey, we arrived completely exhausted, only to be told our room was a standard double. Reception said they would change it and made us wait 15–20 minutes. When we finally entered the room, we were shocked: • It was an accessible room we never booked, with very low, uncomfortable beds and worn-out mattresses (see attached photos). • The bed frames were chipped, and the radiators were filthy, proving the rooms are not properly cleaned. What’s the point of a housekeeping team if the basics aren’t done? • The bathroom was a disabled wet room, nothing like the standard bathroom advertised on Booking.com. • Dust everywhere, including on the bedding. We dreaded to see what was under the sheets. • No phone in the room, meaning every request required walking back to reception. • Pathetic amenities: 3 teabags, few milks, and towels that looked unpleasant. My friend had to go down to the café at 11pm for more tea. We went back to reception to complain and were told this was the only room left. The manager was “busy” and never came to speak to us. We were left to sleep in a room we never agreed to, and had an awful night’s sleep due to: • Terrible, thin mattresses • Beds so low they hurt our backs and joints • Banging doors all night from other guests due to zero soundproofing We left mentally and physically exhausted, this hotel stay actually made our health worse. After the stay, Booking.com tried to contact the hotel, but they ignored all emails. When we called directly, the manager admitted: • The room wasn’t what we booked • The beds are low and rooms are in poor condition • Renovations are “in progress” Yet despite admitting all this, they refused any refund, only offering a 20% discount for a future stay. Completely insulting, why would we ever stay in this hotel again? Other issues: • Water pressure is extremely low • Noise carries through the halls • Housekeeping is clearly failing – filthy radiators, dust everywhere, and worn-out furniture We paid £77 for this and were misled into staying in a substandard, dirty, and uncomfortable room. There are better hotels nearby that actually provide the comfort, cleanliness, and service you pay for. Avoid this hotel at all costs. They mislead customers, refuse responsibility, and offer terrible value for money.
