About Venue

Passing through the country lanes of Cheshire you can view the Castle on top of the Peckforton Hills from quite a distance away, be it that the surrounding forest hides all but a small part. As you turn off the lane and pass through the magnificent gate house, your journey is almost complete but the amazing experience continues. The meandering driveway takes you through the forest which in itself is of special scientific interest and then suddenly through the trees appears a large but beautiful fairytale castle. Originally the home of Lord Tollemache and built in the early 19th Century the Hotel is the only intact medieval style Castle in the country. Over the years the Castle has been the location for numerous movies including Robin Hood, Sherlock Holmes, Dr Who and more recently Coronation Street. The stunning exterior has now been complimented by a lovingly refurbished interior which houses 48 bedrooms and truly magnificent entertaining rooms.
Peckforton Castle holds monthly open evenings given you the opportunity to meet with our wedding coordinators and view the castle function rooms beautifully dressed. Please see our events calender on our website for further details

Absolutely first class, gorgeous castle, perfect location the wow factor, love how a lot of original features have been kept. Great accessibility ♿️ for disabled people as the stairs have chair lifts great idea, the grounds and forest are amazing. The staff are lovely and welcoming and we were just in T-Shirts and shorts with our children there is a bistro you can pop into for a drink and bite to eat, the do weddings here. The little chapel in the grounds is beautiful and quaint. Beautiful place. Honestly haven't looked at prices to stay there would imagine it's not cheap but for a special occasion or your wedding it would probably be worth it.

We stayed 19th September in the Tollemache suite. Highly recommended. The suite is huge, spacious living room, bedroom and bathroom with roll top bath and shower. Stunning views of the castle grounds and beautifully presented. We opted for dinner in the Brasserie and we were not disappointed. Delicious meals cooked fresh and wonderfully presented, compliments to the chef! Service was faultless. The serving staff were really helpful and recommended an adaptation to my meal to suit my dietary requirements. Would happily book again.

Birthday treat of afternoon tea. Excellent food and staff. No idea what the rest of the facilities are like but the lovely (small) wedding party seemed to be having fun. Plenty of parking although the road from the c.p.to the castle was a bit uneven- as warned by appropriate signage (thumbs up). Also electric charging stations in c.p. Well worth another visit.

Lovely for a wedding setting, which is what we came for. We stupidly opted to stay, at £200 a night. The standard of the rooms is not up to the amount being charged. Holes in the carpet and filthy bathroom. The mattress must have been older than me because it was like sleeping on a water bed. Oh, and they wanted to charge a further cost for a cot for our baby 😂 We reported our concerns. Of course the castle was full so no other room could be offered. They didn’t try to offer a discount, just asked for the photos to be sent to their email. They didn’t bother replying after they were sent a formal complaint. Oh and breakfast. Watery, tasteless eggs royale which has a supplement of £6. And to top it all off, we had the runs for 2 days after visiting. Don’t bother with staying or eating. Just be there for your mates big day. Service is 3 because the wedding coordinators were very good. Reception staff, useless.

We were really looking forward to returning to Peckforton Castle after attending a lovely wedding here a few years ago, but sadly our stay was disappointing. Our first room was damp, musty, and smelt strongly of sewage. The bathroom had mould, and there were clumps of body hair in the corners. Fixtures and fittings were very tired and worn. By the second night the smell was unbearable, but thankfully reception staff were excellent and quickly moved us to a much cleaner room. Food was the biggest letdown. Dinner in the Brasserie looked nice but tasted poor and mass-produced – the aubergine starter was undercooked, the dessert tasteless, and the mains felt more like reheated pub meals than restaurant quality. Breakfast wasn’t much better: overcooked eggs, porridge that was lukewarm but served in a scorching hot bowl (and I was told to carry it over to the continental section myself as they couldn’t provide honey or sugar at the table), plus avocado that tasted like supermarket guacamole rather than the advertised smashed fresh avocado – disappointing, especially as it was charged as an additional cost. After one poor dinner and one poor breakfast, we chose to eat out locally the next day, which was far better. The staff throughout – reception, bar, and restaurant – were genuinely brilliant: helpful, friendly, and professional. The service was a highlight in what was otherwise a very underwhelming stay.
