The room was nice - a good size, clean and tidy. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was spacious with a good shower. The room has a kettle, fan and hairdryer and we requested an iron. The fan wasn't great and the iron was broken - not great but also not the end of the world. My friends got locked out of their room at 1am because their card became demagnetized, but staff were helpful and quickly fixed the problem. I liked that there was someone on the desk 24hrs - good when we were coming back late from a wedding. The breakfast was fantastic and there were so many options. We also had dinner in the pub and the food was SO good. Overall, a lovely little place :)

I booked the hotel ages ago, before the recent chorus of bad reviews and apparent receivership. I stayed for two nights to attend an event in Manchester. It was, overall, a strange stay. Off the bat, emails to reception went undelivered to a defunct email address, though digital check-in was requested with an "arrival time" prompt... however, this was meaningless, as the room was not ready on arrival, so I dropped my luggage. When I did access my room later, the black mold in the bathroom took my breath away. The wifi was weak. There was a very thin door separating my room from next door, and it sounded like these guests and their TV were in my room with me. Luckily, they dozed off around 10:00 and so did I... until, of course, the building fire alarm went off around 11:30. No apology was offered. In the morning, I was awoken by five peacocks outside my window who were using the outdoor seating area as a jungle gym and toilet. Not long after, around 10:30 AM, housekeeping barged into my room. I returned very late that night and slept well. In the morning, I called the taxi number on the business card left on the desk. They refused to take me to Holmes Chapel station because they are Macclesfield-based. I don't think I'll be back.
