May 2025Superb stay. Our room was lovely, with a cheeky upgrade! Food was good. The building and grounds are beautiful and the location for Chester is excellent. Yes the hotel may be a little tired but this hotel is excellent value for money and we just loved the character and relaxed vibe. What was stand out for us was the customer service and attention to detail. The staff team here are first class, they have great knowledge of the area - where to go and what to see. They are attentive, professional, nothing is too much trouble and they are proud of their hotel - and so they should be. Megan is exceptional, a professional who was truly outstanding. Thank you to you all for a memorable stay.

May 2025Had a lovely stay with my daughter. We came specifically to visit Chester and had a couple of really nice days, love Chester. Overall, the bedroom was large, clean and very comfortable. A few minor things like lighting not great, but otherwise fabulous room. Beautiful garden and relaxing seating area to have a drink and a few cocktails. Breakfast lovely, but evening meal disappointing....and quite expensive! A few areas a little warn and the facilities, like the pool area, doesn't appear big enough for the people who could potentially be at the pool. There was only 5 loungers and 1 chair around the pool which were taken!!! I only want for a swim but not ideal for relaxing around the pool. All in all though, it's great value for money, especially if you only having bed and breakfast only. Lovely pleasant staff. Few negatives but they are outweighed by the positives. Would definitely stay again. More of a management issue. My biggest gripe was there was no mention of service charge on any menus, on the website, or verbally [as far as I can see], but it appeared on the final bill. No objection to paying a service charge, but it wasn't transparent. Plus, our extras were charged to my debit card straight away (not out of the deposit), but the holding deposit took 5 days to be released back into my bank.

May 2025Visited for a spa day and afternoon tea. Spa was very basic, sauna out of order (a gentleman who has membership told us it has been out of order for 3 weeks now) Steam room was fab, but small, jacuzzi also good but small. Pool was cold. No chairs to relax on. Changing rooms were clean on arrival, but dirty at the end of the day. Afternoon tea also very basic. Egg sandwiches and cheese were nice, the tuna and ham open sandwiches were on very dry bread rolls, we left them. Cakes and scones were delicious, but started to dry out. They let us take some home with us. We ordered a bottle of prosecco and the waitress (who seemed new and a little nervous) took a long time to provide this. The hotel and spa is beautiful, just needs a bit of maintenance and care. Was good value for money as we got a voucher for a deal, but would not have paid full price for this.

April 2025At first you think wow it's beautiful and yes the gardens are lovely, pool area was clean. The bedroom we had the Superior Double at first you think yes. The bed was 2 singles pushed together, the mattress were over 10yrs old, mattress topper wasn't even a topper anymore it's that old and full of stains. We had 2 single quilts in a double quilt cover which were ripped and also stained. The quilts themselves were worn and so thin. Mattresses so uncomfortable we couldn't sleep at all, so wasn't relaxing one bit. The restaurant well the menu was a printed piece of paper with no prices easy noticeable, there was tissue paper under the table leg to try and stop it from wobbling (didn't work) 2 steak dinners with peppercorn sauce, roasted vegetables (they where boiled & not seasoned) chunky chips steak was just grisly and fatty couldn't cut through it. with 3 drinks cost us £98 absolutely shocking.. breakfast wasn't even in room price when booking.com advertised it. The breakfast isn't bloody worth £16+ was absolutely horrible looking bacon still oinking, uncooked sausages, nasty presented scrambled egg, burnt hash brown's list could go on really wasn't felt welcomed here one bit defo won't be staying again so so disappointed This hotel and restaurant are a joke charging £270+ for a relaxing spa weekend. Nope isn't worth the money. Book now
