While wandering through Edinburgh, I stumbled upon a hidden gem — The Botanist, a glasshouse-style garden restaurant.Surrounded by layers of lush greenery, it felt like a secret greenhouse tucked away in the heart of the city. Sunlight streamed through the glass roof, dancing through the leaves and lighting up the garden tables — I felt instantly soothed. What started as a visit for the ambiance turned into a delightful culinary surprise. The fish and chips were the best I’ve ever had — perfectly golden and crispy on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside. And the burger? Stacked with a layer of crispy fish, tender chicken, and smoky bacon — such a bold and unexpected combination! To finish, I had the classic sticky toffee pudding, warm and rich, served with vanilla ice cream — a sweet and comforting end to a lovely meal. Sometimes, the most unforgettable moments in travel aren’t the iconic landmarks, but quiet afternoons like this — when you’re wrapped in sunlight, greenery, and the warmth of a truly satisfying meal.

Lovely lunch with fabulous cocktails. We had the lamb kofta and chicken kebabs, which were absolutely delicious. Staff are very welcoming , great service. Nice unusual take on cocktails, which are amazing.

Great vibes! Love the dim lighting and all the plants. I've come here for coffee, drinks, and lunch. They have fun botany themed drinks. They have cheap lunch kebabs that are to die for (8 pounds) and it comes with pita and hummus. It is a tad loud downstairs like why are we blasting pop music at 1130am but that's my only complaint.

We ate here on our trip to Edinburgh. Fantastic atmospher and a lot of variety on the menu! There was plenty of healthy options which was perfect for us because we really needed some greens. I had the Botanist Bowl with added chicken. It was so much food I couldn't even finish! The dish was fantastic, happy to recommend it. The place it both a bar and a restaurant with the bar on the ground floor and the restaurant up top. It can be a little loud depending on when you go. Another thing that really impressed me was the caution with allergies. I'm extremely allergic to tree nuts and fish, and the first thing they asked us was "do any of you have allergies?". Extremely helpful. They also had a QR code to use that lets you put in your food restrictions and will filter out which dishes you can have. Ultimately, a great place to stop for a drink or dinner.
