I booked lifehouse spa as a birthday treat for me and my fiancé who was turning 45. I was excited and then wasn't when I read the reviews. I wanted it to be a perfect gift but was totally put off reading the negative and 1 star reviews. I called the Spa to cancel and got transferred to the manager Beth who assured me I would have a lovely time and not to be put off but she would stay herself and was working the weekend I was booked in so if I had any issues to go to her. Anyway, in a nutshell my partner and me had the most amazing time. The service was impeccable and this was throughout the Spa , from booking in, afternoon tea, dinner , lunch, Spa itself. I have no idea why anyone would rate it so poorly. Our room , the food was absolutely amazing, we loved the Spa, it was fairly busy but we always managed to get a bed, we used all the facilities including the relaxing room, had a facial. There is not 1 complaint. Our dinner was up there as the best we've ever had anywhere out. Please do not be put off by the reviews, it's a wonderful place to stay and each member of staff was welcoming professional and just a joy to speak to

I came here for a birthday getaway with my boyfriend, I have to say after reading some reviews before our stay, we had a very mixed opinion on what to expect. We were very pleasantly surprised! The hotel is very pretty, lots of lounge areas, and the spa, particularly the entrance is very cool, I loved the option to do some shopping! The spa itself was very nice and relaxing, however I definitely reccomend not going in peak times as I can imagine it gets very crowded and overstimulating. Hotel room was superb, loved the bathroom and the huge comfy bed, only thing I would note is to make sure the rooms come with some water. We had dinner and breakfast included, and I have to say, the steak was nothing short of exceptional. I think the service could have been slightly better. Nobody was rude, however the bartenders did forget our order and stood around chatting and laughing infront of us instead of making our drinks. Happens. The resturaunt staff were very friendly and attentive. We would definitely come back :)

We booked this expecting a relaxing spa break but left feeling stressed and disappointed. The experience did not justify the high price. Check-in was loud and chaotic, and the spa facilities were overcrowded and noisy, feeling more like a busy public pool than a serene spa. The massages were excellent and the room was spacious and comfortable. Dinner was extremely disappointing. We waited around 50 minutes for food, which arrived clearly not freshly served — the plates were untouchably hot, sauces and purées were congealed and dry, and the meat was very dry and unappetising. We were given explanations rather than an apology and still had to pay full price. We rarely leave food unfinished but couldn’t eat it. The management response afterwards was just as disappointing, offering a bottle of Prosecco despite us clearly requesting at booking that none be provided as we don’t drink — highlighting a lack of attention and care. Overall, this is not the calm, high-quality spa retreat it claims to be and is extremely overpriced. We won’t be returning.

WARNING - Do not book if you are looking for a relaxing, quiet visit or stay. The spa is overbooked so there aren't enough loungers, there simply isn't enough space for all the people they cram in. Its noisy, everywhere looks tired and a bit grubby and to top it off, the corridors smell of urine. If you are unhappy with anything during your stay, you MUST bring it up with the team, as complaining or commenting afterwards just brings a standard reply which they must spend all day copy and pasting. The are a few saving graces - the room are Ok, the gardens are gorgeous but the top praise goes to the staff. Jake in the restaurant was amazing, he handled all our queries and was friendly and polite. My spa treatment was also very good but again, hanging around beforehand in what felt like a conference centre was off putting. The bar staff were pleasant but I have no idea how they deal with groups of drunken guests ruining the quiet atmosphere in the restaurant. It's a real shame that's it's gone downhill so rapidly, the reviews from friends and family were what spurred us to blindly book this wedding gift trip - had I read them more recently, I would've seen the slew of similarly poor reviews which seems to have increased in the last year or so - do they have new owners? I suggest also reading the replies to these reviews... Very telling about company attitude. Overall, it was a disappointing trip that we won't repeat.

First of all I let the manager of the life house spa know my concerns (Julie) We have stayed here 3 times before as it is our little retreat as family live locally to look after kids. We was given room 45 in the Mulberry wing. Run for the hills if you get this room but I say avoid the place completely until it has a well deserved renovation. The room is right next to the loud lift so relaxing and sleep won't happen if you stay in this room for sure. The bed in this room is tired and very uncomfortable. The shower valve is on it's way out as it keeps dripping and needs to be over tightened for it to stop. The spa area. Over crowded you be lucky to get a seat. Which we didn't, the steam room was shut saying for refurbishment. We wasn't notified, Julie (Life house manager) said they don't up date the website about refurbishments. The sauna the seating is broken. So limited seats in there also. The salt room the ceiling is hanging off. A light dangling from spa rain fall shower by jacuzzi which is dangerous. Menu wasn't as good as last time. Julie said it was seasonal and they change it regularly. Best thing about this stay was we found a little local pub 15 minutes walk away called the bell inn and the food was exceptional. I felt this review needed to be wrote as if I saw a recent review like this I would certainly be questioning my stay / look to book elsewhere. We don't book this place for the money. We book this place to relax and recharge and this time it certainly didn't happen. I honestly think this will be our last stay until this place has a complete overhaul. It so needs it.
