About Venue
Set in the immense vaults beneath The Royal Exchange, The Libertine is the new home of indulgence in the heart of the city. Sitting on the site where the very first royal alcohol licence in Britain was granted, the space is steeped in hedonism and mischief.
The bustle and opportunity around the old Royal Exchange, built in 1571, attracted merchant, heralds and rogues from across the city and beyond. Once the day’s work was done (and often before), the assembled traders would partake of boisterous ‘tippling’ in the vaults under the Exchange.
The Libertine is a modern revival of those free spirited times, with spaces for drinking, dining and unwinding well into the night, away from prudish prying eyes.
What could be more festive than sitting around the table, surrounded by friends, laughing over plates of piping hot and carefully prepared food. The Libertine is home to a restaurant and a stunning private dining room, offering numerous options for special evenings.
The restaurant, which can seat up to 68 guests, and the private dining room, which can seat 16, are both available for private hire over the festive period.
We also have ‘The Whiskey Vault’, a stylish private space for up to 20 people standing which can be hired exclusively. Guests can book all 3 areas for larger events, with festive set menus as well as bowl and canapé dishes. Christmas has never tasted so good.
We are available for both semi-private bookings and full private hire over the festive period. We can host celebrations of up to 450 and will work with you to create a bespoke package that perfectly fits the needs of your event, whether it’s the whole company party or a more intimate gathering of friends and loved ones.
Spaces for hire include our private dining room, ‘The Whiskey Vault’ which can hold seated dinners and standing drinks events, as well as the main bar and restaurant areas

A cool space with a cosy atmosphere. Michael looked after us exceptionally well. The food was tasty, although not the best batter on the fish and chips (probably should have heeded Michael's suggestion to go with a special!). Slightly spendy, but then the location and the portion size mostly made up for that.

Had a wonderful Sunday roast at The Libertine, the beef roast was perfectly cooked, tender and full of flavour, beautifully paired with a glass of Malbec and some fresh oysters to start. A special mention to Emily, who made the whole experience even better, she was incredibly friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming from start to finish. She checked in at just the right moments and made sure everything was perfect. Her warm service really elevated the meal and created such a lovely atmosphere. Highly recommend dropping by for a Sunday roast and if you’re lucky enough to have Emily looking after you, you’ll be in great hands!

We had the best time at The Libertine for our large group dinner! Cara, Elsie and Omar took such great care of us. They paid attention to special dietary needs and ensured each guest was satisfied. That atmosphere was perfect- a very cool vibe and just right for our group. I would highly recommend checking out The Libertine for a large group dinner!
