About Venue

Set in the immense vaults beneath The Royal Exchange, The Libertine is the new home of indulgence in the heart of the city. Sitting on the site where the very first royal alcohol licence in Britain was granted, the space is steeped in hedonism and mischief.

The bustle and opportunity around the old Royal Exchange, built in 1571, attracted merchant, heralds and rogues from across the city and beyond. Once the day’s work was done (and often before), the assembled traders would partake of boisterous ‘tippling’ in the vaults under the Exchange.

The Libertine is a modern revival of those free spirited times, with spaces for drinking, dining and unwinding well into the night, away from prudish prying eyes.

The vaults beneath The Royal Exchange house a new fortune. Step through the unassuming door on Cornhill and down a spiral staircase where there lies a den of spirited talk and lively tippling; introducing The Libertine.

Under vaulted arches which once guarded the spices, silks and gold that enriched London in years gone by sits an impressive bar worthy of the modern City

The Libertine is home to two private dining rooms and a beautiful main restaurant, perfect for indulgent long lunches and lively celebratory dinners.

A cool space with a cosy atmosphere. Michael looked after us exceptionally well. The food was tasty, although not the best batter on the fish and chips (probably should have heeded Michael's suggestion to go with a special!). Slightly spendy, but then the location and the portion size mostly made up for that.

Had a wonderful Sunday roast at The Libertine, the beef roast was perfectly cooked, tender and full of flavour, beautifully paired with a glass of Malbec and some fresh oysters to start. A special mention to Emily, who made the whole experience even better, she was incredibly friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming from start to finish. She checked in at just the right moments and made sure everything was perfect. Her warm service really elevated the meal and created such a lovely atmosphere. Highly recommend dropping by for a Sunday roast and if you’re lucky enough to have Emily looking after you, you’ll be in great hands!

We had the best time at The Libertine for our large group dinner! Cara, Elsie and Omar took such great care of us. They paid attention to special dietary needs and ensured each guest was satisfied. That atmosphere was perfect- a very cool vibe and just right for our group. I would highly recommend checking out The Libertine for a large group dinner!
