About Venue
The Montcalm at the Brewery wears its quirky heritage with pride, an award-winning transformation from historic brewery to handsome five star hotel. With period features at every turn, it stays faithful to its past as the eighteenth century base of Whitbread & Co, but it’s also every inch the twenty-first century hotel you’d expect of a superbly central City of London location. A refreshing blend of elegance and informality, it’s the ideal urban retreat, welcoming wide-eyed explorers and time-pressed business travellers alike to the true heart of London.
The epitome of period elegance, with its high ceiling, large sash windows and statement chandelier, this airy ground floor room is named after one of the original investors in the Whitbread brewery. It also overlooks Chiswell Street Dining Rooms.

Superb service. We came for an early Valentines and Wedding Anniversary. The staff could not have been more helpful throughout our stay. Just superb.

I had a wonderful stay at The Montcalm Brewery London City Hotel. The location is fantastic — very central and within easy reach of many London attractions. The Barbican and Moorgate metro stations are just a short walk away, which makes getting around the city extremely convenient. The service was excellent throughout my stay — the staff were professional, attentive, and always ready to help. The breakfast was outstanding, with a wide variety of high-quality options to choose from, making each morning a great start to the day. The single rooms are a bit on the smaller side, but they are well-equipped, clean, and comfortable. Overall, the hotel combines great service, convenience, and comfort — a perfect choice for both business and leisure travelers.

I’m very disappointed with our stay at The Montcalm Brewery London City. This hotel was booked by my husband specially for our anniversary and Valentine’s Day, as he chose it based on the beautiful photos of the restaurant, dinner, and dishes. Unfortunately, our first big disappointment was finding out on arrival that the restaurant was closed. We were told it’s because it was the weekend, but no such information was communicated after booking. If we had known in advance, we would have chosen a different hotel. Secondly, our room was very cold because the heating was not working. After contacting reception, an electric heater was brought to us, which is not what you expect when staying in a 5-star hotel. Thirdly, there was visible mould on the bathroom ceiling, which is unacceptable for any hotel, especially one claiming 5-star standards. The price we paid reflects a 5-star hotel, but the experience absolutely did not. We have stayed in other Montcalm hotels before and know what true 5-star quality looks like — sadly, this property did not meet those expectations at all. Overall, a very disappointing experience for what was meant to be a special celebration.
