About Venue

Steeped in tradition and grandeur, the halls provide a unique and spectacular setting for any event from small intimate gatherings to large lavish banquets.

The oldest of the four Inns of Court, the historic buildings are set in beautiful, private grounds in Central London.

The Old Hall, a fine example of Tudor architecture, dates back to 1490 and has many notable features including the wooden screen at the south end, designed by Inigo Jones, and Hogarth’s painting of “Paul before Felix” on the North wall. The Crypt beneath the Old Hall was for centuries used for storage of fuel, food and wine. Now the brick groin vaulting has been restored to its former glory and is used as a reception area.

The Great Hall was opened by Queen Victoria in 1845 and is the largest hall of any of the Inns and is considered to be one of the most distinguished buildings designed by Philip Hardwick working in the Tudor Revival style. On the North Wall is a huge and magnificent fresco executed by G.F. Watts, the Pre-Raphaelite painter, showing the world’s law givers from Moses to Edward I. The Bench Rooms are hired in conjunction with the hall and are used as reception areas.

Set beneath the Great Hall, the Ashworth Centre a tiered Lecture Theatre and a suite of ten meeting rooms are split between two floors have been expertly designed to allow natural daylight to flood each room through generous skylights.

Our Lecture Theatre is ideal for screenings, conferences and talks, and is complete with integrated AV facilities.

The tiered theatre style seating for 158 delegates also retracts, allowing the stylish double height space to be used for receptions as well as a host of other event possibilities. This venue is conveniently located next to a suite of Meeting Rooms suitable as break out spaces for smaller group sessions.

The meeting rooms Individually are ideal for small boardroom meetings of up to sixteen delegates, or the partition walls offer the flexibility to open the rooms up for larger board meetings of 60 guests or theatre style seminars for up to 120 guests. The glass ceiling in the adjoining communal foyer provides impressive views of the Great Hall turrets above.

These Meeting Rooms can also be hired in conjunction with our Lecture Theatre.

We also offer Hybrid event solutions and small meeting room packages.

Really beautiful hall and library, as well as recently restored chapel. The cafe is also nice.

As a wedding photographer, The Great Hall at Lincoln’s Inn is one of those venues that instantly takes your breath away. Tucked away in Holborn, it feels like you’ve stepped into a history right in the middle of London. The architecture is absolutely stunning high ceilings, huge windows, wood panelling, and so much historic detail in every direction. It gives your photos this grand, timeless feel without ever feeling cold or too formal. And that natural light streaming in during the day? A total dream to work with. Outside, the courtyard and gardens offer a quieter, more intimate space, perfect for portraits or relaxed moments away from the buzz. The team at Lincoln’s Inn are always great to work with really professional and helpful. It’s a venue that feels rich with story, and every time I shoot there, I walk away feeling inspired. Open House affords an opportunity to see a space where some of the finest figures have walked through the doors of the Honourable Society and leave their mark on this field. It's rather fascinating to see for example the library where book after book gives us an idea of just how in-depth the world of legal law and justice really is, and the many paintings themselves are a marvel to behold (do look out for the painting of a figure who resembles British actor, Hugh Bonneville). The chapel is compact but again, there is a rather stark beauty that permeates the place that allows for pause when you do come through here. As an Open House opportunity, the Honourable Society of Lincoln's Inn is a rare chance to see an important postmark of British legal law and history from its roots right up to the modern day.
