About Venue
Steeped in tradition and grandeur, the halls provide a unique and spectacular setting for any event from small intimate gatherings to large lavish banquets.
The oldest of the four Inns of Court, the historic buildings are set in beautiful, private grounds in Central London.
The Old Hall, a fine example of Tudor architecture, dates back to 1490 and has many notable features including the wooden screen at the south end, designed by Inigo Jones, and Hogarth’s painting of “Paul before Felix” on the North wall. The Crypt beneath the Old Hall was for centuries used for storage of fuel, food and wine. Now the brick groin vaulting has been restored to its former glory and is used as a reception area.
The Great Hall was opened by Queen Victoria in 1845 and is the largest hall of any of the Inns and is considered to be one of the most distinguished buildings designed by Philip Hardwick working in the Tudor Revival style. On the North Wall is a huge and magnificent fresco executed by G.F. Watts, the Pre-Raphaelite painter, showing the world’s law givers from Moses to Edward I. The Bench Rooms are hired in conjunction with the hall and are used as reception areas.
The Old Court Room is named after its original use and was once a lively scene of legal activity. Today its walls house the Inn’s antiquarian books and the room offers a tranquil setting flooded with natural daylight, with views across the Inn’s estate. This intimate room makes a great setting for lunches and dinners of up to 44 guests, receptions for up to 70 people and lectures for up to 47 delegates.

Really beautiful hall and library, as well as recently restored chapel. The cafe is also nice.

As a wedding photographer, The Great Hall at Lincoln’s Inn is one of those venues that instantly takes your breath away. Tucked away in Holborn, it feels like you’ve stepped into a history right in the middle of London. The architecture is absolutely stunning high ceilings, huge windows, wood panelling, and so much historic detail in every direction. It gives your photos this grand, timeless feel without ever feeling cold or too formal. And that natural light streaming in during the day? A total dream to work with. Outside, the courtyard and gardens offer a quieter, more intimate space, perfect for portraits or relaxed moments away from the buzz. The team at Lincoln’s Inn are always great to work with really professional and helpful. It’s a venue that feels rich with story, and every time I shoot there, I walk away feeling inspired. Open House affords an opportunity to see a space where some of the finest figures have walked through the doors of the Honourable Society and leave their mark on this field. It's rather fascinating to see for example the library where book after book gives us an idea of just how in-depth the world of legal law and justice really is, and the many paintings themselves are a marvel to behold (do look out for the painting of a figure who resembles British actor, Hugh Bonneville). The chapel is compact but again, there is a rather stark beauty that permeates the place that allows for pause when you do come through here. As an Open House opportunity, the Honourable Society of Lincoln's Inn is a rare chance to see an important postmark of British legal law and history from its roots right up to the modern day.
