I enquired about hiring Kent House for a Honeytrap event (a private members’ club for queer womxn). My enquiry was handled via Gary at Evolve Events, who told me the venue would not be suitable due to its “religious status” and that he had to “be sensitive to everyone.” Fair enough, not every space will align with every community. But what’s confusing is that Kent House is also actively promoted in the Gay Wedding Directory as a venue welcoming LGBTQ+ couples. If that’s the case, why would a queer members’ event be considered “incompatible”? And even if it were, it feels unprofessional and in poor taste to position it that way. Honeytrap has been warmly welcomed by several prestigious venues and members’ clubs across London without issue. It’s unclear whether this reflects Kent House’s official policy or simply Evolve Events’ interpretation, but either way, the inconsistency undermines the credibility of Kent House. We have the full email exchange on record should Kent House wish to dispute this. — Ro, Founder of Honeytrap
