About Venue

The four star Montague on the Gardens Hotel combines the best of two worlds. In front is the British Museum and the hurly-burly of tourist London, whilst to the rear there's a serene private garden, cut off from the city by a rectangle of fine Georgian townhouses.

Between the two lies The Montague on the Gardens Hotel – an intriguing blend of up-to-the-minute city vibrancy and old-world Bloomsbury charm, where guests can expect British hospitality at its finest.

Featuring an excellent array of peaceful and exciting outdoor and indoor event spaces, as well as our seasonal pop-up concepts, The Montague Ski Lodge and The Beach Bar.

The Great Russell Suite is fully air-conditioned, has a private registration and cloakroom area as well as a private bar. It is located on the lower ground floor and is fully accessible.

The Great Russell Suite provides the ideal setting for conferences and seminars, dinner dances, seasonal parties or weddings. It also has access to the outdoor Wood Deck and its seasonal pop ups - the summer Beach Bar or the winter Ski Lodge - and overlooks the intimate Bedford Gardens. It is the largest room in the hotel with a capacity of up to 120 delegates theatre style or 110 guests banqueting style.

We have just returned from.a one night stay and wish it had been longer. Loved this hotel staff were brilliant and the hotel has a type of quirkiness that I absolutely adore. We returned from the theatre and it was a joy to be able to enjoy a night cap in the bar. Rooms were of a high standard but I would like a room on a higher floor next time I stay. Will definitely be returning.

Beautiful hotel, right next to British Museum, close to public transport. Felt it was a quieter neighborhood compared to more central London but perfect location to get to other areas. The hotel staff was fantastic, especially Abi!!! He went above and beyond to help. Morning breakfast was included and offered a great variety. would definitely stay here again!

A truly delightful stay. The room was spacious and tastefully appointed, with a bed both generous and wonderfully comfortable. The shower was invigorating, complemented by luxuriously soft, fluffy towels. After a restful night’s sleep, I enjoyed a superb breakfast that set the tone for the day. I very much look forward to my next visit

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Absolutely Outstanding – A Hidden Gem in Central London! I had the most incredible stay at The Montague on the Gardens. This charming boutique hotel is a peaceful escape right in the heart of Bloomsbury — just a short walk from the British Museum and Russell Square station, yet it feels like a tranquil retreat. From the moment I arrived, the service was impeccable. The staff were warm, welcoming, and truly went above and beyond to make my stay comfortable — even offering a glass of champagne at check-in! Every detail was thoughtfully taken care of. My room was beautifully decorated in classic British style with modern comforts, a super cozy bed, luxury toiletries, and a lovely view over the gardens. It was spotless and incredibly comfortable. The food was another highlight — the breakfast buffet was fantastic, with a great variety of fresh options, and the Blue Door Bistro served an amazing dinner. I also loved the themed Beach Bar experience, which added such a fun touch to the stay. What really sets this hotel apart is the genuine hospitality and attention to detail. The staff made me feel truly at home — friendly, professional, and always ready to help. If you’re looking for a hotel with character, comfort, and exceptional service in a perfect location, The Montague on the Gardens is it. I’ll definitely be back!

It's a wonderful surprise and so refreshing to find a hotel where service is taken so seriously. The place operates like clockwork with particular attention to taking care of guests. The location is of also, of course, superb, with all of Bloomsbury at your doorstep. Furnishings, decor, atmosphere are all very charming and, importantly, nicely maintained. As others have noted, the rooms are quite small even by urban standards. Having read other reviews, I booked a double room as a single traveler and found I just barely had enough space. I will most happily stay here again despite the small rooms, as it's so unusual to find management and staff in the hospitality industry today who really take pride in their work. Kudos to the management and staff. Be aware there is a 15-pound service charge per day that is only disclosed at time of registration and can be removed up on request. This charge is the only hint of modern, tacky, and exploitative management decisions in the industry. Shaming guests into paying staff wages is the latest trend and, as a practice, seems wholly incongruent with the overall ethics of the hotel. I should hope the service manager agrees with me.
