Tea Room At Bun House, Exclusive Hire

Descend to Bun House’s theatrically louche basement and you’ll discover this well-observed homage to hedonistic Hong Kong dens of yore, courtesy of Sino-American couple Z He and Alex Peffly. Inside, a vintage jukebox plays a soundtrack of 1960s Kowloon divas, while waitresses in cheongsams waft between punters seated at booths or on rattan verandah chairs. Exquisitely presented cocktails are the stock-in-trade here, built on premium Chinese base spirits. To these, head honcho Franky Rodrigues adds a few extra ingredients – syrups, liqueurs, bitters and aromatics made in-house – to form a winning list of 21 original ideas. Highlights include Fenjiu-based sweet and sour sharpener, Coriander & Cucumber; and Cigarette & Palm (a smoky Old Fashioned made with palm syrup, tobacco liqueur and revered Baijiu brand, Moutai). Otherwise, order Chinese beers, teas, plum or rice wines, and snack from Cantonese sharing plates: tea egg brûlée with tea tree nest, perhaps, or oolong-smoked quail.

Bun house is absolutely stunning. We first went in for the buns so we got the custard, chicken and the lamb. The chicken one is divine and you can really taste the coconut curry. And the custard bun was so delicious I could eat it all day. We then went there for a meal and it was so delicious it was one of the best fried chickens we have ever had!!! And the service was so good the staff were really friendly and smiley 🥺

Yum! Turned out to be one of our favorite spots we went to in London. The buns are delicious - especially the beef and custard. We also loved the ribs and the spicy string beans. Service is super fast and efficient.

Really good food. The queuing system is a bit silly (there are meant to be separate queues for takeaway vs. eat in, but everyone was in the same queue and no staff ever come out to check on anyone waiting to eat in). However, once we were in, the buns were delicious, the beef short rib melted in my mouth, and the waffles fries were a great side.

Very good buns in London's Chinatown. 3 for 11 pounds at he time of writing, prices have gone up everywhere! Still the buns are pillowy soft without being soggy with a decent amount of filling. A satisfying snack on the go or as a sit down. Cool box too using chopsticks as the handle. Chopsticks does everything

Very nice buns, enjoyed the Pig, Beef and Lamb. The buns really need some chilli oil in my opinion, their homemade oil was £1 extra and definitely worth it. Fish balls also very nice and Oolong tea was a decent sized pot. Only a few tables so you may have to wait for a table. Custard buns look great and seem very popular so will hopefully try them on the next visit
