Gosh, I loved this hotel. Set near the Cavern Club, it also is attached to a restaurant that offers excellent fish and chips, and more expensive foods, as well as an elegant ambience enhanced by Beatles music. The rooms were comfortable and I hit the hay fast. I cannot express how much this hotel and its eatery relaxed me after a long drive on the M.

Our stay was 9th/10th January '26 for our wedding anniversary. We stayed a few years ago and the first thing we noticed was that the place has been refurbed/freshened up and looks a lot better for it. The history info placed around the reception/bar/restaurant areas is really interesting. First bit of information from us that we feel most need to know is, if you are driving in, you need to pre-book a parking space with the hotel. If you don't pre-book there is nothing the hotel can do to apply the discounted rate. We mention this as we got caught out despite the fact we specifically checked and there was no mention of needing to pre-book on Booking.com. At the time of writing, the charge for one night parking is £25 (no discount). The reception team handled/managed this when we raised it on arrival and we were very happy with the outcome. As mentioned the communal areas look good and were very clean as was our room. The room was spacious, comfortable and had everything we needed. We had dinner in North Sixty4. I had the hake, which was perfectly cooked and tasted amazing; I was disappointed there was no Samphire (as per the menu) however it did not detract from the dish. Hubby had the Penny Lane fish & chips; he was disappointed that the chips were frozen rather than made in-house and the fish had a rubbery spine/edge. We raised the issue with the battered fish when asked how the meal was and once again, the staff handled it brilliantly showing genuine concern - the last thing we heard the chef say was "I'm going to check every piece of fish"... The food was very reasonably priced. Breakfast was the usual cooked buffet and was a bit of a let down; without question, a 4 star hotel should be cooking eggs to order however fried and scrambled eggs were pre-made and left under heat lamps so were very rubbery. Considering the breakfast has only started 10 minutes before we got there, all the cooked items looked and tasted like they had been sitting under the heat lamps for quite some time - along with the serving spoons/tongs, which were very hot to the touch. It was very disappointing. The breakfast kitchen team may want to revisit how they manage the cooked breakfast to keep it more worthy of a 4-star hotel and also find a safer way to place the serving spoons/tongs. That aside, what stood out the most for us were the staff; without exception, every single member of staff we encountered were OUTSTANDING. We sometimes forget how much of an effect the attitude of staff can have on our experience - we were reminded during our stay. They were absolutely brilliant, friendly yet professional; nothing was too much trouble and the couple of issues we had were immediately resolved without any issue. The staff on duty during our stay definitely made our experience 100% better, which is something you really can't put a price on.

This is our favourite place to stay when we visit Liverpool. Sadly, it didn't feel like home this time. I don't know if it was the room or what. I accidently booked twin beds when I booked, and as I paid on a no cancellation or alterations, we had to go with it. The mattresses were uncomfortable, you can feel the springs. The first night we never slept, we were both tossing and turning all night. When we got up, we hurt. My husband is waiting for 2 new hips as he needed comfort, I also have arthritis and need a comfortable mattress. I asked for a mattress topper to be put on both beds, or even extra quilts and we would have used them and slept on the other quilts. They put on mattress protectors, which are very thin, but helped slightly. We took our own hot chocolate, and used it on the first night, went to use it the second night and it had totally disappeared. Saturday morning, we put the 'refresh our room' sign on the door at 10am, when we got back around 5pm our room hadn't been refreshed, so no milk, or decaf coffee, or bins emptied. Luckily we brought some coffee incase there wasn't any decaf and we always buy a small carton of milk to drink, so we used this for hot drinks. Also missed was glasses in our room. I went to the reception and now they don't provide glasses, unless you ask for them, or the bottles of water they have always provided. We called in the bar on our way back fron Matthew Street, ask for an orange cordial and an orange J2O, to be told they had neither. Surely a bar should have orange cordial. We decided to go and have a hot chocolate in the foyer area and listen to the Beatles music, while it was playing, something that no longer happens 24/7, its a Beatles hotel but not a lot of their music anymore, anyway back to the hot chocolate, sorry we don't do hot chocolate, except for the machines, but it isn't nice! At least the member of staff was honest. Did it spoil our visit to Liverpool, yes and no. Yes because a Beatles themed hotel should play more Beatles music, and the standards need looking at. No because we made the most of Liverpool itself, visiting our favourite cafès, taking walks along the river front, visiting new places and things connected to the Beatles. Would we stay again? I'm not 100% sure, but maybe. The location is perfect, a 5 minute walk takes us to places we remember and love, very handy for shopping, 10 minute walk from the train station.

Have to say very disappointed with this hotel. Im from Liverpool and have stayed here a few times over the years. Maintenance has gone down dramatically since we were last there. Panel in room were you put key card was hanging off wall. Windows would not close properly so very drafty and noisy, no sound proofing. Breakfast time messy used tea bags over flowing by coffee machine, items not replenished. No teaspoons. Small things maybe but for a 4 star hotel I dont think so. Such a shame iconic hotel going down the drain.

We stayed at Hard Days Night Hotel from 14th February to 15th February 2026. I've stayed here twice before - in 2010 and 2019 - but unfortunately standards have clearly slipped. Our room overlooked Matthew Street and the noise from nearby venues continued until around 4am, followed by loud revellers for hours afterwards. Even with earplugs, it was impossible to sleep. A hotel’s primary purpose is to provide a comfortable night’s rest, and it was just impossible here. There is an 11pm noise curfew in Liverpool that it's evident the Matthew Street venues are flaunting, and it's absolutely the responsibility of the hotel to keep this in check with the council to ensure guest comfort. There were also ongoing issues with the air conditioning, which staff acknowledged at check-in. Given that online reviews suggest this has been a problem for some time, this should have been communicated at booking or alternative arrangements offered. Instead, we stayed in a room with really poor temperature control. The pillows were lumpy and uncomfortable, adding to an already poor night. Sadly, I won’t be returning, which is disappointing given my positive stays in the past. The most disappointing aspect of this is that the hotel simply refused to engage when I tried to discuss this with them.
