A Slice of America in Fitzrovia: Why Passyunk Avenue is Our London Go-To Tucked away in London’s Fitzrovia, just a brisk walk from Euston station, Passyunk Avenue is the American-style restaurant and bar that feels like a transatlantic hug. Named after South Philadelphia’s famous thoroughfare, it nails the vibe of a proper US dive without ever feeling gimmicky. For us, it’s become the non-negotiable pit-stop before catching a train back north. Close enough to sprint to the platform, generous enough to never make us feel rushed. The Food: Cheesesteaks and Wings That Demand Encores Let’s start with the star: the Philly cheesesteak. I’ve eaten my share on either side of the pond, but Passyunk’s version is the one I measure all others against. The bread, pillowy, freshly baked, with that perfect chew, cradles thinly sliced ribeye, melted Cheese Whiz (yes, the authentic neon-orange stuff), and onions cooked just enough to sweeten without collapsing. It’s a sandwich in sublime balance: salty, gooey, beefy, and somehow light enough that you’ll eye a second before sense prevails. I rarely resist the buffalo wings either. Britain’s track record with this simple dish is spotty, often dry, oversauced, or served with a sad carrot stick apology. Passyunk gets it right: wings cooked until the meat slides off the bone, coated in a tangy, buttery buffalo sauce that hits every note without scorching your soul. The blue cheese dip is thick, chunky, and generously portioned; the celery is crisp and never forgotten. It’s pub grub elevated to art. The Service: Warm, Quick, and Genuinely Kind The staff here are wizards at reading the room. They clock the Euston-bound panic in your eyes, deliver plates with ninja speed, and still manage a smile that says “take your time.” No eye-rolling when you ask for the bill with the mains, no upselling when you’re clearly on the clock. It’s the kind of hospitality that turns a 35-minute dash into a proper mini-vacation. The Vibe: Sports on Screen, Smiles All Round The bar hums with energy. TVs flicker with whatever game’s on—NFL, NBA, Premier League—and even if you’re not a sports fan (we’re not), the buzz is infectious. Happy punters, clinking glasses, the occasional roar when someone scores; it’s the soundtrack of a good night out. Grab a stool, order a beer (their own draught is a perfect crisp accompaniment to a meal), a cocktail, and let the atmosphere do the heavy lifting. The Verdict: We’ll Keep Running for It Passyunk Avenue isn’t just convenient, it’s a destination. The food is spot-on, the service is gold, and the atmosphere turns a quick bite into a memory. As long as they keep looking after us like this, we’ll keep carving out time, even if it means a full-on sprint to the station with cheesesteak breath. Five stars, no notes.

The WIZ cheese sauce was absolutely amazing and went with the tortilla chips really well. The beer was lovely and smooth and the vodka cranberry was nice and sweet. The bread was so soft and delicious and complimented the meat and cheese so well

Friendly atmosphere, has that american feel, felt warm and inviting. Food was tasty and fresh. Had food as takeaway... did not spend too long in there but thumbs up.

Being from Philly and living in EU, we love to come here for a little taste of home. We brought friends last weekend and everything was great. They make their own WIZ and the Yunkling beer is great. Our friends’ first time having a real cheesesteak and they all loved it and would recommend to their friends. Always ready to come back to London for this place. Thanks so much!
