About Venue

The British Library is not only the national library of the United Kingdom but also one of the world's greatest academic institutions.

Opened in 1998, the library is now hailed as a great triumph of design and technology as well as one of the greatest repositories of library materials which include over 150 million items, with some material dating from 3000 years ago. The auditorium can accommodate up to 255 delegates, with facilities for simultaneous translation, film, sound and video presentation. This, combined with a full team of onsite technical expertise, ensures world-class delivery. In addition, there are five comfortable and individually designed meeting rooms allowing for 10-60 delegates. All rooms have natural daylight, electronic blackout blinds, climate control and sound proofing.

Further to the Knowledge Centre, the British Library also has an executive Boardroom suite, consisting of the British Library Boardroom, which is ideal for board meetings and presentations as well as private lunches and dinners for up to 32 guests. The additional rooms in this suite can accommodate from 4 to 12 guests making it in an ideal option for smaller meetings and interviews.

In the evening, the library offers receptions and dinners for up to 200 guests. The King's Library Gallery offers a spectacular backdrop with the King's Library Tower, holding over 65,000 volumes or the Terrace Restaurant with its floor to ceiling windows and outdoor, rooftop terrace for summer events.

Arguably the most stunning, and the largest of the 5 meetings rooms, the Eliot Room showcases a unique architectural design, with high ceilings and impressive features. This room can be utilised for workshops, product presentations, launches, and intimate dining for up to 60 people. Overlooking Euston Road the double row of sound proofed windows allows for off-street silence whilst still providing natural daylight and views of Kings Cross. Blackout facilities, built in screen and air conditioning available in this room.

I am a big fan of visiting libraries as a tourist and this one is definitely a must see. Grand and beautiful with historical pieces and nice exhibits. It’s also a very nice building and only some temporary exhibitions require a paid ticket. Definitely worth a quick stop for those visiting and who are in the neighbourhood.

The British Library is always a pleasure to visit with the exhibitions and also the Sacred Texts on display. I went to get my readers pass, waited in the queue for about 30 minutes, but all was quite efficient. Really happy to get my pass. Next will be getting stuck into some of the past manuscripts related to Archery, for my upcoming book I'm researching for and also to build my research on Mughal Archery, which is still an under researched topic. Highly recommend a visit, whether for research, to do some queit work or just to take the children to create the love of books..

A library may not typically be on a tourist’s must-see list, but the Treasures Gallery at the British Library is well worth a stop on your visit to London. This free, permanent exhibition showcases some of the world’s most iconic works, including Leonardo da Vinci’s notebooks, Beethoven’s music books, the Beatles’ handwritten lyric notes, the Magna Carta, and the Gutenberg Bible - offering a rare chance to see these remarkable artifacts from across cultures and centuries up close. Highly recommended!

The facility is amazing, but I just wholeheartedly hope that the new online system they’re switching to is better. The current one does not make it clear which volumes from book collections are available in the London Unit or in the Boston Bar unit. Also, it was just when I was inside the engineering library that a slightly rude librarian explained to me that all books older than 10 years are taken to the Boston Bar unit. This information (that is at least not easily available online) caught me completely off guard and I had to visit the Boston Bar unit, that was a very pleasant experience. Also, visiting for the first time is a bit chaotic and a “tutorial for first timers” poster at the entrance would already be very useful. Just wish that the costumer experience was better, since the free access to the gigantic collection to the whole world is just amazing.
