Used to offer a sandwich menu and other more simple items. Instead of the extra sandwich menu we were given a steak menu, where the cheapest steak was £64. But worryingly the serves had no idea what type of meat/cut they were selling. We were also told not to order the creamed spinach because “it tastes rubbish” and when the two steaks we ordered came out they were embarrassing. Both cooked wrong and ours was ridiculously fatty- it was a Cote de Boef which is ribeye (we had to google that, staff had NO idea) so it should be a bit fatty but this was ridiculous. Which for a £89 cut of steak that was also cooked rare so the fat didn’t properly render… That’s basically the same price as a specialist steak house, but the other product and service are a long way short. Oh and the sides- also embarrassing, broccoli and carrots that were limp and simply boiled and some mash that looked like smash. We were hosting clients so couldn’t send our food back or make a scene. Not sure what has happened here but we will not be heading to a Davys

We visited Davy’s at Plantation Place for our Christmas lunch as a large group of around 25 people, and overall the experience was disappointing. Positively, it was great to have a private area and the atmosphere at the tables was fun…the company definitely made the day enjoyable. However, the food itself didn’t live up to expectations, especially considering the price paid for a Christmas lunch. The starters were acceptable, but the main course felt very rushed. The meat quality was poor, with far too much gristle and very little actual meat. On one table, no vegetables or gravy were served at all, which was especially disappointing for a Christmas meal. Thankfully, that table was enjoying the company more than the food, but it shouldn’t really be an issue at this price point. I do appreciate that it’s an extremely busy period for hospitality venues, but the lack of attention to the food really let the experience down. Given the cost and expectations, we’ll likely look elsewhere for a large-group Christmas lunch next year. That said, it may well be better suited to smaller groups where staff can give more attention, but unfortunately for a large festive booking, it didn’t hit the mark for us.
