The Montcalm at the Brewery wears its quirky heritage with pride, an award-winning transformation from historic brewery to handsome five star hotel. With period features at every turn, it stays faithful to its past as the eighteenth century base of Whitbread & Co, but it’s also every inch the twenty-first century hotel you’d expect of a superbly central City of London location. A refreshing blend of elegance and informality, it’s the ideal urban retreat, welcoming wide-eyed explorers and time-pressed business travellers alike to the true heart of London.

My stay at The Montcalm Brewery was a mixed bag of experiences. While the hotel boasts a luxurious ambiance and attentive staff, several disappointments left an unpleasant taste in my mouth. Me and my boyfriend booked this in celebration of a special occasion in finishing our master degrees, and as a farewell for my boyfriend to be returning to his home country of Germany. Upon arrival, I was eager to unwind in the comfort of a soundproof room, as promised during the booking process. However, my initial room failed to deliver on this crucial amenity. Instead of enjoying peace and tranquility, I was disturbed by the audible conversations and activities of neighbouring guests, and many more explicit noises (if you "get my drift"). It was disconcerting to realise that the supposedly soundproof walls were inadequate, especially when privacy and relaxation are paramount to a five-star experience. Fortunately, after bringing this issue to the attention of the staff, I was promptly relocated to an upgraded room. The new accommodations were indeed lovely, exuding elegance and comfort. I appreciated the effort made to rectify the situation, and I must commend the staff for their professionalism and willingness to accommodate my concerns. Throughout my stay, the doormen stood out for their exceptional service and warm hospitality. Their friendly demeanour and helpful attitude added a welcoming touch to my experience. It's commendable to encounter such dedicated individuals who go above and beyond to ensure guests feel valued and cared for. However, despite the efforts of the staff, there were still notable shortcomings. One such disappointment was the absence of a minibar in the room, despite it being advertised as part of the amenities. This oversight was disappointing, as it detracted from the overall convenience and luxury promised by a five-star establishment. In conclusion, while the Montcalm has its merits, including excellent staff and elegant accommodations, the lack of transparency regarding amenities and the initial room quality marred the experience. With attention to detail and better communication regarding facilities, this hotel has the potential to truly excel in providing a top-tier hospitality experience.

I stayed here for 4 nights, as part of a short trip to London. Initially, I was impressed with the beautiful building, inside and out. However, this quickly changed when I was greeted with nothing short of borderline rudeness, and incomplete information regarding services and my stay. Miscommunication perhaps, but it felt more like disinterest. The room was comfortable, and of good size, however the shower wasn't working properly and some of the fittings were falling off in the bathroom. There was also no working fan. The window didn't open, leaving a slight feeling of stuffiness, despite ample air conditioning. The room was also very dark, with little to no natural light entering. The fridge was in need of repair, with broken shelves, and a general clean. Also, the cost of laundry, despite multiple questions to staff about pick-up and cost, was absolute highway robbery. It cost me less to get to Edinburgh, than one bag of washing! Again, unsure if miscommunication or generally just no interest in assisting patrons. I will give amazing credit to The Jugged Hare. Incredible food, excellent service across the board, and wonderful staff. Cannot praise this section of the hotel enough. The breakfast was also very good, with both Continental and Full being of equally good standard. Some good things to take away, but overall, not happy with a so-called 5 star stay.

My partner and I recently stayed at the Montcalm Brewery Hotel in London from 10 to 12 May 2024, room 327, and unfortunately, it was the worst 5-star hotel experience we have ever had. While the central location of the hotel is commendable, that is the only positive aspect we can highlight. The room was unexpectedly tiny with a very small window that could not be opened (photo attached), making the room feel claustrophobic, like being in a prison. Even with the air conditioning on, the lack of fresh air was unbearable. Furthermore, the room's condition left much to be desired. It was outdated and some items were in disrepair. A particular issue was with the sink's faucet, which detached a couple of times and had to be reattached manually. Service was another area where the hotel fell drastically short. Despite requesting room cleaning at the reception and being away for 5 hours, we returned to find the room had not been cleaned. When the cleaning staff did arrive, I asked if they could return later as we were getting changed. Disappointingly, she never came back, and the room remained uncleaned for the duration of our stay. Considering the price paid (£333.88 or €389.37), the value for money was incredibly poor. This experience was not only frustrating but also a regrettable waste of resources. I would not recommend Montcalm Brewery Hotel to those seeking the quality and service expected of a 5-star establishment.

Hello. We stayed at your place from 17.5-19.5. The hotel has a rating of 5 stars, but it does not even correspond to 3 stars. The equipment was far from what you write on the website. And the incredible dirt... We had neither a bathrobe nor a toilet brush in the room. The beds were poorly made and the mattresses worn. We had room 146. Let's fly to England in 3 weeks for a week. We wanted to stay at your place, but until then dirt for the money, never again. And don't play for something you're not far from. I feel cheated by Jiří Hrachovy
