Rendezvous Hotel, Winterburn Suite

Room was clean and quite large. Tea and coffee making facilities were provided. It is in a lovely canalside location. Good breakfast with cooked and continental provided. Service was good and staff are friendly.

Having to wait for over an hour for our room to be made ready really wasn't at all good . If we'd arrived at noon I wouldn't expect it to be made up, but arriving at 4 I expected it to ready. It put us off ordering breakfast and eating there in the evening. We were really looking forward to this getaway and this spoilt it. No compensation offered for 2 tired older women having to wait to freshen up and relax.

After being given a room which was not suitable for my personal needs the manageress did work hard to get me something suitable. However both rooms we were given were very dated indeed. In fact the majority of the hotel was dated, clean but dated. We found some of the staff, moody and not helpful, the restaurant manager was great but some of her staff, omg, not happy. Then we found only one lift working which juddered and banged so much my wife refused to use it. I had to wait 9 mins on Sunday morning for the lift and being disabled this was very uncomfortable indeed. The staff behind the bar, omg, slow does not do it justice with one member saying he’d worked 12 hours and looked like he was going to pass out. We also heard quite a few people complaining about the food, wrong orders, poor quality such as either cold or a warm prawn cocktail for example. Just all a bit amateurish. The beer price for some obscure so called German beer at £7.75 a pint was simply ridiculous. Positives. Breakfast food and quality was excellent. Views are fantastic with the canal going right past the restaurant windows. Restaurant manageress was helpful and polite. Nice large bed. But if you need a walk in shower, ring and make sure you’re getting one. The website only shows a walk in shower, which I would expect in most modern hotels now. Would I go back, probably not tbh. Not until a full refurb is done, both lifts work and the decor is updated.
