I played Blakes golf course this morning with my son-in-law. We were very much looking forward to playing this inland links course, and it did not dissapoint. Superb course, in beautiful surroundings and the greens were amazing (very quick and very unforgiving). Fantastic! We both agreed that we would be back on a more regular basis.

Initially, I was put off playing here with the reviews, especially about the greens. I eventually plucked up the courage to play it in July this year as it's round the corner from me. Pleasantly surprised is all I can say! After talking to a few members, it seems the last owners saw it as a cash-cow and milked it dry without looking after the facility. The new owners have invested in new machinery, they also own Woolston Manor Golf Course & Country Club. So have the resource. The Greens are ever improving and at present, there's a lot of work going on with the bunkers. The incentive is there to make this a good quality golf course it seems...... As for the layout, it's fairways are fairly wide and the greens are fairly generous. There's a distinct lack of trees but don't let this fool you. The weather is it's big and perhaps only defence. The wind can rip through this course, as it sits mostly on top of a hill. (Great views by the way!) Club selection is key when playing uphill and especially downhill. Your approach to the greens must be thought out, as it does play like a traditional links course in this regard and ball positioning is key. There's some beautiful looking holes on this golf course and the 16th can be a card wrecker. It's one tough Par 4!

Last played here 3 years ago and it was pretty average. The golf course is in very good condition. The greens are great to putt on . Stay o the fairways because the rough is very dense. It would have been 5 stars if the clubhouse facilities were better. Nice breakfast.

Open link style course, and when the wind is up it makes the course more difficult. Bunkers OK but some have deep sided with wooden sleepers "wild" In the winter the course gets very muddy In the summer the fairways & greens can get very hard. My advice play it from Late May to Late September you should be alright? The 8th a tackling 120 yard par 3 which is surrounded by water and when the wind blowing it's a great test of courage. The coloured flag system, Front, Middle, Back. Sadly no practise nets, putting green GUP, driving range, chipping green. No temp tee's or green in the winter For £15 after 12 o'clock mid-week, any more I don't think so.
